Fabio Carvalho will be Jurgen Klopp’s first signing at Liverpool this summer.

Earlier in April, Fabrizio Romano reported that Carvalho was joining the Reds from Fulham.

The 19-year-old almost signed for Liverpool during the January winter transfer window but it collapsed on deadline day.

If he joins, it’ll be for a seven-figure fee in the region of £5 million [The Guardian].

And the Carvalho thing has been reiterated by a local journalist.

According to Theo Squires, who exclusively covers Liverpool for The Echo, the Cottagers’ sensation will be first to arrive through the doors at Kirkby this summer, adding that ‘three or four’ players will come overall.

He told The Echo: “Carvalho will seemingly cover the forward option, leaving the Reds with six senior options if Origi and Minamino both leave. If one of the traditional front three go, you can expect them to move for a replacement too.

“So I reckon three or four potentially [signings], with Carvalho being the first.”

Building for the future

If Carvalho does sign for Liverpool – and nothing can be guaranteed based on how close it looked in January – then it’ll reinforce that Klopp is building for the future.

Some of the Reds’ biggest names are either 30 and above or on the brink of reaching that milestone stage.

And it makes complete sense for the German manager to look ahead to the future.

When is Carvalho joining Liverpool?

If he’s coming, Carvalho will probably join Liverpool toward the end of May.

That’s when the Ibrahima Konate deal got done last summer but, the difference is, there’ll be more signings following Carvalho, whereas the French defender was the only player Klopp and Michael Edwards signed last time around.
