Liverpool are pushing to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia despite interest from Joe Shields at Chelsea.

There is believed to be a real expectation that Romeo Lavia ends up at Liverpool even with Chelsea keen.

The Athletic report that Liverpool are now expected to launch an improved bid for Southampton ace Lavia.

It’s suggested that an opening bid of £37million has been rejected with Southampton holding out for £50million.

The report adds that there is now ‘an increasing likelihood’ that Lavia will end up signing for Liverpool very soon.

Chelsea allegedly maintain a ‘firm interest’ in signing Lavia and could yet make a move of their own.

Liverpool will hope to get this deal tied up soon – possibly before they head off to Singapore in the coming days…

Liverpool want Romeo Lavia on flight to Singapore

Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri has been a reliable source throughout the rumours about Lavia’s future.

Tavolieri claims that Liverpool are trying to finalise a deal worth around £45million for the midfielder.

Tavolieri adds that the aim is for Lavia to be in Singapore with the Liverpool squad for games against Leicester City and Bayern Munich.

It’s also claimed that Chelsea are trying an approach for Lavia as Joe Shields is pushing a move.

Shields worked with Lavia at Manchester City and then played a key role in taking him to Southampton last summer.

Shields now works for Chelsea and wants to take Lavia to Stamford Bridge, with Tavolieri stating that Liverpool are ‘in a hurry’ to get the deal done.

Hailed as ‘very talented’ by former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique, Lavia showed huge potential in the Premier League last season.

Staying in the Championship always seemed unlikely with the Premier League elite showing a major interest.

Liverpool may now see Lavia as the future of their midfield with Fabinho seemingly on his way out – and the crucial days of their move for the Belgian appear to be upon us.
