Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has admitted he was left “disappointed” by the transfer window business done by the Anfield side over the summer, insisting that he feels Jurgen Klopp’s side needed to add another forward.

The Reds only signed Ibrahima Konate this summer while Xherdan Shaqiri and Georginio Wijnaldum departed with the possibility that Divock Origi could still complete a move to Turkey and Carra thinks that his old side will be left short if Sadio Mane and Mo Salah head to the Africa Cup of Nations later this season.

“I’m disappointed Liverpool haven’t got an attacker in, I must say,” Carra told the Irish Examiner.

“I do think Liverpool are short in the attack and they will have to keep everybody fit, which is nigh on impossible really. I do think they will struggle but they’re very robust, Liverpool’s front three.

“Mane and maybe Salah away for the Africa Cup of Nations at some stage, I’m not sure how many games they’ll miss but I do think that was something to miss for Liverpool.”

“They’ve got (Divock) Origi there and (Takumi) Minamino but I basically wanted someone who was better than them to come in to the club.

“You know whether it’s the owners, if it’s something to do with the pandemic, finances are tight and you know with no one going out we couldn’t bring anyone in.

“(Diogo) Jota is there as well and he was a big miss for Liverpool last season.”

While there is the prospect of bringing someone in ahead of the AFCON in January, it would only leave them a matter of days to get embedded with their new teammates.

That could pose a real problem after Liverpool’s title rivals all spent big this summer to bolster their own squads ahead of the summer transfer window closing earlier this week.
