Liverpool legend Ian Rush has claimed that the Anfield side has something which can make a “massive difference” against Tottenham Hotspur as the two Premier League sides prepare to lock horns in the Champions League final.

Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano will play host to the Reds of Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, both of whom have steered their respective teams to the final against all odds.

Liverpool were 3-0 down against Barcelona following their semi-final first leg at Camp Nou but a superb performance at Anfield saw them run out 4-0 winners to reach the final at the Blaugrana’s expense.

Tottenham, meanwhile, were a goal down going into their second leg away at Ajax and had shipped two more by half time, but a Lucas Moura hat-trick ensured a 3-2 win on the night and 3-3 aggregate score for an away goal victory.

However, while a Champions League final is uncharted territory for Spurs, Liverpool will be contesting their second one in a row, having taken on Real Madrid in last year’s showpiece in Kiev, as well as it being their fourth final appearance since the turn of the century.

Asked by Sky Sports News whether the Reds’ experience in European finals, including last season’s 3-1 loss to Los Blancos, could make a difference, Rush replied: “Yes, very much so.

“Liverpool got to the final and most probably overachieved last season, but it was an absolutely fantastic journey. They set the standards last season and they’ve bettered them this year. I think that experience will be a massive difference against Tottenham.”
