Liverpool have a virtually impossible mission during the upcoming winter period: replace Mohamed Salah.

The 29-year-old Egyptian international is jetting off for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 27.

Nineteen goals in as many appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this season indicates that Salah – who could miss eight matches overall – will be an enormous miss.

But the Merseysiders might have a surprise short-term replacement for the goalscoring phenomenon.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool for a hefty £40 million from Arsenal during the summer of 2017.

Jurgen Klopp has almost exclusively only used him as a midfielder since his arrival, but Oxlade-Chamberlain spent six years as a wide player in North London and the German coach could ask him to fulfill this position as Salah’s replacement.

Interestingly, Klopp may have almost no use for Oxlade-Chamberlain as a midfielder because, honestly, he barely does now, considering that the England international has started five Premier League games since the start of last season.

But as a winger, the former Southampton academy gem is massively needed during the winter.

Dynamite‘ was the word that Klopp chose to describe him as a few years ago and he definitely remains an explosive footballer.

Remember, when Liverpool chose to drop £40 million on Oxlade-Chamberlain, it was because of his performances as a winger, where he operated under Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.

And with Salah preparing to depart for Cameroon, and ready-made replacements sparse, Oxlade-Chamberlain is quite possibly Klopp’s stand-out option.
