According to Corriere dello Sport (print edition, Sunday, page 11, June 21, 2020), Liverpool have made a bid of €60 million (£54.34 million) for Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The report in the Italian publication, which has been covered by The Express as well, has claimed that manager Jurgen Klopp is the driving force behind Liverpool’s reported attempt to sign Koulibaly.

However, according to the report, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants €100 million (£90.57 million) as transfer fee for the 29-year-old Senegal international central defender, described by his former Napoli teammate Pepe Reina as “extraordinary” to TMW in April 2020.

Good signing for Liverpool?

Although he has not had the best of seasons in 2019-20, Koulibaly is a very good central defender who would make an instant impact at Liverpool.

Paired with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Reds’ defence, the former Genk star, who stands at 6 ft 1 in, would make the team so much better at the back.

However, with Napoli reportedly insistent on a transfer fee of €100 million (£90.57 million), it remains to be seen if Liverpool are willing to cough up that much cash on the centre-back this summer.
