Liverpool have just released the finer details of Joe Gomez’s knee injury which he sustained while on international duty with England.

Unfortunately, it’s not good news.

The Premier League champions confirmed that Gomez has undergone successful surgery to repair a tendon in his left knee.

While that is somewhat good news in it’s own right, the Reds also announced that the problem will see the ex-Charlton man miss a ‘significant’ part of what’s left of the 2020/21 campaign.

Luckily, Liverpool state that the issue was ‘isolated’ to Gomez’s tendon, and there has been no damage to any other associated knee ligaments.

That means that the Merseysiders are now without Gomez or Virgil van Dijk for significant periods, which is terrible news for Jurgen Klopp as he looks to challenge across all competitions.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss is also without Fabinho, who can provide defensive cover.

Joel Matip is currently available, but he too only recently recovered from his own injury problem having been unavailable for the win against Ajax towards the end of October.

That leaves Klopp with three young guns in Nathaniel Phillips, Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio, who will be required to step up having potentially not even dreamed of being involved in first-team proceedings this season.
