Liverpool may have hope of signing Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler after Hannover decided to renew the contract of his expected successor.

The Reds may be in the market for another goalkeeper at the end of the season.

Don’t worry – Alisson isn’t going anywhere.

Yet with Caoimhin Kelleher possibly ready to become a number one elsewhere and Adrian out of contract, Liverpool may chase a backup stopper.

There have been links to Sandhausen stopper Patrick Drewes but Liverpool may have a window of opportunity to land Hannover stopper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Liverpool given hope of signing Ron-Robert Zieler

Bild reported in November that Liverpool are interested in signing Zieler.

Zieler counts as a homegrown player in England thanks to his history in the Manchester United youth ranks.

That makes Zieler very appealing to Liverpool and they may now push to bring the 33-year-old back to the Premier League.

Currently playing in the second division of Germany with Hannover, Zieler is out of contract in the summer – but there is an option for another year.

Hannover may well activate that option but just to preserve his limited value ahead of selling him in the summer.

On Sunday, Hannover extended the contract of goalkeeper Leo Weinkauf.

The 26-year-old is serving as Zieler’s backup but Bild claim that Weinkauf is expected to take over from Zieler as first-choice goalkeeper at some point.

Would Weinkauf have committed to extending his contract if he was expecting to sit on the bench for another season?

That’s up for debate. It seems that Hannover believe Weinkauf can be their number one but they would have surely had to promise him that role soon in order for him to stay.

That may mean that Zieler moves on this summer and if he becomes available, expect Liverpool to be right in the mix.
