Jamie Carragher speaks highly of ex-Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew ahead of Crystal Palace’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is looking forward to today’s Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

This will be Alan Pardew’s first home game in charge of Palace, and the Eagles fans will certainly be excited for the match at Selhurst Park.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher is interested to see how the game pans out and wrote in The Daily Mail: “So the big question for Crystal Palace’s new manager is whether he can have the same effect as Tony Pulis and keep his side in the Premier League.

“Alan Pardew has a tough baptism against rejuvenated Tottenham today but his first game as Newcastle manager was against Liverpool in December 2010. Newcastle won that 3-1.

“Some seem surprised he has made the move but, in many ways, it makes a lot of sense. Geographically, it will help his family and professionally he will get more help from his board and supporters.

“Pardew is a good manager and I admire that he has been working in the Barclays Premier League for a long time. It will be interesting to see how things map out at club for which he has a genuine affinity.”

Tottenham will be favourites heading into the game this evening, but Palace can stage an upset. The fans will make it a mission to cheer their players on vociferously, and that could play an important role.

Pardew’s arrival at Palace has already lifted the mood, with optimism now resurfacing that the London club can stave off relegation to the Championship.

Winning, or even drawing, against Spurs this evening will not be easy, but Pardew is a very good manager who recently led Newcastle United to a stunning 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
