Dominik Szoboszlai admits it would be a ‘special experience’ to play for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in a statement which could give the Premier League giants plenty of food for thought.

Alexis Mac Allister may be on his way to Anfield – reports indicating that personal terms with the Brighton star are already agreed – but Liverpool’s pursuit of another midfielder continues to run into obstacles.

Jude Bellingham is too expensive. Bayern Munich want Ryan Gravenberch to stay. Mason Mount, meanwhile, reportedly has his heart set on Manchester United instead.

So, with Dominik Szoboszlai speaking openly about his admiration for Liverpool’s long-serving manager, has the Hungary international just given Jurgen Klopp something to ponder?

With nine goals and 13 assists in 2022/23, 22-year-old Szoboszlai is one of Europe’s most exciting attacking midfielders and, having been given his wings by the Red Bull finishing school, the former Salzburg starlet would presumably have few problems adapting to Klopp’s typically hard-running, high-pressing approach.

Could Dominik Szoboszlai be an option for Liverpool?

“It would certainly be a special experience to work under Klopp,” Szoboszlai tells Index. “As it would be under (Manchester City boss Pep) Guardiola or (Roma’s) Jose Mourinho.

“I don’t know what they would be able to get out of me.

“Relatively few footballers are given all this (opportunity), however. Only the best. I believe I can reach that level, and it would be great to work with any of them one day.”

Szoboszlai has a £60 million release clause in his contract (Sky Sports). Liverpool were heavily linked back in 2020, a few months before a player some have labelled Hungary’s most talented footballer since the legendary Ferenc Puskas swapped Salzburg for their German-based sister club Leipzig.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have a track record when it comes to raiding Red Bull. Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate and Takumi Minamino all moved to Anfield after spells at Leizpig or Salzburg respectively.
