The three new arrivals started the club’s first friendly of the summer, which saw Liverpool beat their local rivals courtesy of a Danny Ings goal.

Three new Liverpool signings made their debut in Friday’s win 1-0 win over Tranmere Rovers, with Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Sadio Mane all getting 45 minutes under their belt.
The game was settled by a goal from forward Danny Ings in the second half, making solid progress as he returns from a serious knee injury and looking like he will be ready to challenge for a first team spot at the start of the season.
But a lot of the focus will be on the Reds’ trio of new stars that played the first half. German goalkeeper Karius, expected to challenge Simon Mignolet for the number one shirt, began the match and kept a clean sheet before being replaced by Adam Bogdan at half time.
Matip also started the game. The free transfer arrival has consistently been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga over the last few years, even though Schalke have suffered a dip over the last couple of campaigns that saw them slip out of the Champions League positions come the season’s end.
The Cameroon international played every match in the league last season, and managed to score three goals to boot – no surprise considering his aerial prowess.
Finally, Sadio Mane began up front with Roberto Firmino, and linked well with the Brazilian towards the end of the half. Plenty of young players also got a look in across the 90 minutes, while Lazar Markovic also featured in the second period.
