It feels very unlikely that Loris Karius will ever make another Premier League appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Loris Karius of Liverpool shows dejection after the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool at NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium on May 26, 2018 in Kiev, Ukraine.

Loris Karius has rebuilt his reputation since leaving Liverpool after that Champions League final nightmare against Real Madrid.

But with the German goalkeeper making another huge mistake on the European stage on Thursday night, no one now is talking about how impressive Karius has been between the sticks for Abdullah Avci’s side over the last nine months.

The former Mainz ‘stopper became the King of the Blunders once more after misjudging a long, harmless punt up the pitch during Besiktas’ 4-2 defeat to Slovan Bratislava. The ball bounced horribly over Karius’ head and he was left sprawled on the turf, head in his hands, as Andraz Sporar gleefully tapped into an empty net.

“At this level, we cannot make such individual errors,” an irate Avci told NTV Spor after a damaging defeat for the Istanbul giants.

“You cannot explain it.”

A £4.7 million signing from Mainz in the summer of 2016, Karius’ Liverpool career will always be tainted by those high profile errors, culminating in a Champions League final performance so bad that The Reds immediately went out and broke the world transfer record to bring Alisson Becker to Anfield.

Besiktas have an option to sign Karius permanently for £9.5 million at the end of the season (Liverpool Echo) but could they be getting cold feet after another nightmare moment?
