Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, but the Englishman bullishly declared that he sees himself staying on Merseyside, as quoted by the Express.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013, and initially hit the ground running, scoring 37 in his first 49 appearances for the Reds.

Injuries then began to wreak havoc with his career, and it it hard to argue that he hasn’t been anything other than a flop over the past four years.

Sturridge has made just 61 Premier League appearances for Liverpool over the past four seasons, and he endured a particularly miserable campaign last season after suffering an injury during a loan spell with West Brom.

Many believed that the 26-capped England international would be leaving Anfield this summer, with the Chronicle reporting that he was offered to Newcastle.

The Liverpool hitman explained how he fully expects to be a part of Jürgen Klopp’s plans this season, though, as quoted by the Express:

“I see myself staying at Liverpool, hopefully being part of the team week in, week out. Pre-season is going well, so for me it’s keeping my head down and building on that. I’m excited about the season ahead and it feels great to be back. Pre-season has started well for me and the team. I am feeling great and can’t wait to get the season under way.”

Klopp’s side are expected to push Manchester City all the way for the Premier League title this season, and if Sturridge can remain fit and healthy, there is no reason why he won’t have a big part to play for his team.
