Scotiand boss Steve Clarke has suggested to the Scotsman that Liverpool’s Andy Robertson could be back in time to play in their next match.

The Liverpool defender was not risked by Scotland yesterday, after complaining that his calf had ‘seized up’ in their last game.

His omission from the Scotland squad was a major concern for Liverpool supporters.

But Clarke’s words do finally bring some relief to Reds supporters that the left-back won’t be out for long, as the Scotland boss suggests he could feature on Wednesday.

“Andy was probably a little bit worse than the rest, which is why I left him out,” he said.

“It would have been too big a risk. But he’s coming to Israel so we’ll assess him over there and hopefully get him on the pitch. That would be good as we’d like our captain on the pitch.”

As good as the news is for Liverpool, the fact that Clarke wants him to play on Wednesday is also very worrying.

The Reds can ill afford any more injuries, and Clarke’s plan to play their left-back could be a major concern.

Liverpool will not want any risks taken with their players, as the injury problems mount up at Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all miss Liverpool’s game against Leicester City at the weekend, and Jordan Henderson is now a doubt too.
