Yesterday, a photo of Harvey Elliott emerged from the AXA Training Centre which is sure to confuse Liverpool fans.
The image showed Liverpool’s No.67 taking shots at goal while wearing a strange device on his head, which made him look like some kind of lab experiment.
So, what is the meaning behind this photo? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, as detailed by The Athletic, Jürgen Klopp has a thirst for innovation and a desire to make marginal gains in football.
As a result, the German has enlisted the help of Dr Niklas Hausler and Patrick Hantschke.
With the duo’s assistance, the likes of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Milner and Elliott have attached electrodes to their head so date could be collected, and individual training programmes created.
It is these electrodes we can see in the photo of Elliott at the AXA Training Centre.
They were also seen back in August, when Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Elliott took part in a video for neuro11 to showcase the technology.
Clearly, Elliott is still using the electrodes, as the photo of the 18-year-old included the Premier League winter ball, so it’s clearly a fresh image.
Sky is the limit for Harvey Elliott at Liverpool
In our view, there are few youngsters on the planet who have a better working environment than Elliott.
The teenager has the faith of Klopp, as he was entrusted to start the Champions League last 16 tie against Inter Milan – his debut in the competition.
Elliott also has some incredible role models to learn from, such as Virgil van Dijk and Salah, as well as a manager who – as we can see – is focused on marginal gains and the mental side of football.
Clearly, everything is in place for Elliott to become a superstar at Anfield – only time will tell if he fulfils his huge potential.
