Could Liverpool enter the running for Tottenham defender?

It is a year since Liverpool swooped for Virgil van Dijk and made him the Premier League’s most expensive defender.
Soon a centre-back of similar quality is set to hit the market for a third of the price.
Liverpool paid £75 million to sign Van Dijk. Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld will cost just £25 million.
This comes after Spurs triggered an option on his expiring contract for it to run until 2020.
The contract includes a release clause of £25 million which can be triggered in the summer, providing it is before the final two weeks of the transfer window, BBC Sport report.
There will be an almighty scramble for Alderweireld’s signature and Manchester United are expected to follow up last summer’s interest.

Liverpool should not be ruled out either, and by that time the Reds could be Premier League champions if they can hold onto their lead at the top of the table.
Alderweireld would be an upgrade on Dejan Lovren, and turn Liverpool into an even better side, while weakening one of their rivals.
Here is a look at how Liverpool fans reacted to the reports…
