Liverpool clinched an unconvincing but important 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

Liverpool’s winning start to the season continued on Saturday afternoon, as they narrowly beat Sheffield United 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds headed over to Bramall Lane for the first Premier League game of the weekend, meaning they had a chance to pile pressure on Manchester City ahead of their trip to Everton later in the day.

Liverpool didn’t really hit top form though, and needed a howler from Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson to seal a win, as Georginio Wijnaldum’s effort somehow slipped through Henderson’s fingers.

Jurgen Klopp will be pleased with the three points, and whilst it wasn’t exactly convincing stuff from the Reds, the three points were the most important thing.

City later won 3-1 at Everton to ensure they didn’t slip any further behind, but Klopp will know he needs his players to step it up against Leicester City next weekend.

Even some of Liverpool’s big-name players failed to impress, with right back Trent Alexander-Arnold even coming in for some criticism despite a superb start to the season.

The 20-year-old has been an attacking force throughout the season, but his passing let him down a little on Saturday, and fans not only criticised that, but also his defending.

Some called Alexander-Arnold ‘utter garbage’ and ‘shambolic’, even accusing him of stinking the place out with his poor play and slamming his ‘atrocious’ passing, and they will absolutely hope and expect this to be a one-off.
