The Reds have snapped up the highly rated Dutch defender and some Anfield fans are imagining what the club’s defence will look like in a few years’ time.

(THE SUN OUT, THE SUN ON SUNDAY OUT) Sepp van den Berg signs for Liverpool Football Club at Melwood Training Ground on June 26, 2019 in Liverpool, England.

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to eagerly anticipate how their club’s first-team defence could look like in a few years following the imminent arrival of Sepp van den Berg.

The Reds have officially agreed a fee with Dutch club PEC Zwolle for the transfer of the 17-year-old defender, which will be completed in July subject to international clearance (official Liverpool website).

The fee for the Netherlands Under-19 centre-back, who was believed to be on Bayern Munich and Ajax’s radar, is reported by Sky Sports News to be an initial £1.9million.

However, it could reportedly rise above £4million, depending on how many Premier League and European appearances Van den Berg goes on to make during his time at Anfield.

Van den Berg made his Eredivisie debut at the age of 16 in March 2018 and went on to make 15 league appearances for PEC Zwolle and has also started each of the Netherlands’ last three European Under-19 Championship qualifiers.

While he is not believed to be in first team contention just yet, with the club looking to develop him, some Reds fans have cast an eye to the future, with several other highly rated young defenders either coming through the ranks or breaking into first-team contention.

Here is what some of the Kopites have written on the social media platform at the prospect of how good the team’s defence could potentially be in a decade or so:
