Trent Alexander-Arnold has certainly had a 2018 to remember.

The Liverpool academy graduate has become Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice right back in the past 12 months and performed strongly as the Reds reached the Champions League final.

On top of his club exploits, Alexander-Arnold was also called up to Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad this year as the Three Lions made the semi-finals for the first time since 1990.

As testament to his rising star, the 20-year-old is currently among the five top candidates for the prestigious Golden Boy award, as reported by Tuttosport on Tuesday.

The accolade, founded by the Italian sports newspaper, is presented annually to the best player under the age of 21 playing in one of Europe’s top leagues.

AC Milan striker Patrick Cutrone, Roma winger Justin Kluivert, Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt and Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior join Alexander-Arnold in the provisional final five.

The winner of the award – whose past winners include Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe – will be announced on 17 December.
