Four years since missing out, Liverpool fans still wish they had Tottenham star Christian Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen’s stunning performance for Denmark in their decisive World Cup qualifier ensured the football world sat up and took notice of his supreme talent.

For Tottenham he has often been overshadowed by Dele Alli and Harry Kane, but for Denmark there are no such superstars alongside him.

Eriksen’s hat-trick against Republic of Ireland had Liverpool supporters revisiting their close call with signing him before he joined Tottenham.

In the summer of 2013 Liverpool had seemed like Eriksen’s most likely destination, with Reds defender and compatriot urging him to move to Anfield, SkySports reported.

The Telegraph reported the Reds had scouted him regularly, but no agreement was reached with Ajax.

Eriksen explained that the ‘personal touch’ from Tottenham helped them win the race for his signature.

Chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Franco Baldini flew to Ajax to hold talks and persuade him, with Eriksen telling The Star: “It really impressed me that they wanted it so badly and wanted to do it so quickly.”

Four years on, Eriksen has scored 34 goals for Spurs and is getting better all the time.

Reds fans are right to feel they missed out.
