Liverpool are reportedly keen on Burnley defender James Tarkowski.
Liverpool may be busy preparing for this weekend’s Champions League final against Real Madrid, but that hasn’t stopped the transfer rumour mill from churning.
The Reds have already tied up one deal as Naby Keita will finally arrive from RB Leizpig almost a year since agreeing his move, but manager Jurgen Klopp will want new signings no matter how the Champions League final pans out.
Despite landing Virgil van Dijk in January, another centre back may be targeted, given that Ragnar Klavan, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren continue to exhibit inconsistency.
Now, The Independent report that Klopp has two targets in mind, with Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles and Burnley’s James Tarkowski allegedly wanted by the Reds.
The two English centre backs have impressed this season, with both players unlucky to have been left out of the England squad for this summer’s World Cup squad.
However, Liverpool fans don’t seem to be sold on Burnley ace Tarkowski, despite the 25-year-old thriving under Sean Dyche in a superb season at Turf Moor.
Many fans took to Twitter to say that they aren’t convinced by Tarkowski’s ability to play for a top club, with some fearing that he would suffer similar struggles to former teammate Michael Keane upon leaving Burnley, as he has struggled with Liverpool’s rivals Everton.
Some are willing to trust Klopp after his deal for Andrew Robertson last summer paid dividends, but many would prefer to sign Lascelles if Liverpool were faced with such a decision this summer.
