Leeds United are in action today, but the entire city in a state of celebration after the club not only won promotion, but also won the Championship title.

The Whites put themselves on the brink with a 1-0 win over Barnsley on Thursday evening, and their promotion was confirmed on Friday when West Brom lost at Huddersfield Town.

When Brentford lost at Stoke City on Saturday afternoon, it was all over; Leeds were not only Premier League-bound, but they had done it as champions.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side completely deserve this; they have been the best team in the league this season, and the only shame is that fans won’t get to celebrate it properly.

One such fan is Liverpool midfielder James Milner, who was born in Leeds, grew up supporting the Whites and came up through their ranks before leaving for Newcastle in 2004.

Milner left after Leeds’ relegation, believing that he had to help save the club he loves by moving on to generate funds – and what a career he has had since then.

The 34-year-old made 61 England appearances, won two Premier League title with Manchester City, and is a current Premier League, Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup champion with Liverpool.

Milner took to Twitter this weekend to celebrate Leeds finally returning to the Premier League, and whilst Leeds fans begging him to ‘come home’ was always going to happen, there were also emotional messages from Liverpool fans.

Reds supporters messaged Milner by stating that, whilst they want him to stay at Anfield, they completely understand if he wants to re-join Leeds and see out his career with his boyhood club.

Fans can appreciate everything Milner has done for Liverpool, and having won pretty much everything there is to win at Anfield, they would accept him leaving the Reds to re-join Leeds this summer if that’s what he wants.
