Some Liverpool fans on social media have been reacting to Frank De Boer’s update on Virgil van Dijk, in which he disclosed the centre-back’s return date.
The Netherlands national team manager says that van Dijk will be back in eight weeks, and while that means he likely won’t play again for Liverpool this season, there is a small possibility that he’ll be back playing for the Reds before the end of the season.
Indeed, Liverpool fans were quick to do a bit of maths and realise that the Champions League final is over eight weeks away, so if Liverpool were to get to Istanbul, van Dijk could theoretically play in the final.
Of course, there’s a lot that needs to happen between now and then. Liverpool have to navigate a tough quarter-final and semi-final, while there also needs to be no hiccups in van Dijk’s rehab.
But if De Boer is right, Liverpool could field van Dijk in a Champions League final, should they get that far in the competition.
