Some Liverpool fans are reacting to Georginio Wijnaldum’s post-match tweet.
The former Liverpool midfielder helped the Netherlands to a 4-0 win over Montenegro in World Cup qualifying last night.
Wijnaldum, who quit the Reds this past summer after his contract expired, scored his country’s third goal of the night.
When he left for Paris Saint-Germain, quite a lot of fans of the Anfield club were annoyed and let him know it.
But it seems like time is a great healer because here’s how Liverpool supporters have responded to his post on social media after the match:
Nowadays, the supporters are much angrier with the board than they are Wijnaldum.
That’s because Liverpool failed to sign a replacement for the former Newcastle United star.
They would’ve known he was leaving for virtually the whole of 2021 and therefore it’s inexcusable – and a tad puzzling – that nobody was signed to replace him.
This is particularly the case because Wijnaldum was a monster of a player for Liverpool, one who helped them to Champions League and Premier League titles, being a mainstay in Klopp’s XI.
Whatever way you look at it, the German manager is going to miss him and if his troops fail to win the Premier League, and finish close to the eventual winners, the narrative will be that it was because nobody came in after Wijnaldum went.
And honestly, they might be right.
