Danny Ings has not played a league game for Liverpool since 2015/16 but could aim to kick-start his career at Leeds United.
Jurgen Klopp could hardly hide his frustration as Liverpool extended their disappointing recent run to one win in seven following Sunday’s draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Once again, The Reds wasted chance after chance at one end while defending like a relegation candidate at the other. The fact that Liverpool have scored just seven goals from their last 126 shots on goal tells you everything you need to know about the standard of their finishing of late.
It would seem to make little sense, therefore, for Klopp to sanction Danny Ings’ departure in January. ESPN reports that Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United believe the one-time England international could boost their desire to return to the Premier League after 14 years away.
Considering that Ings scored 21 goals in his most recent Championship season with Burnley in 2013/14, helping Sean Dyche’s side finish as runners-up, you can see why Leeds would be keen.
With the 25-year-old now closing in on a return to full fitness after suffering two serious knee injuries that have decimated his Liverpool career, fans are rightly wondering why their goal-shy side would not at least give Ings a chance to rectify their ongoing profligacy.
Quick, sharp inside the box and a prodigious hard worker, Ings seems very much a Jurgen Klopp striker. And a January move to Leeds may have fans once again questioning Liverpool’s transfer business.
