Switzerland lost 3-1 to Portugal on Wednesday night.

Some Liverpool players will still be celebrating their Champions League final win, but others are already back in action for their countries.
The likes of Virgil van Dik, Georginio Wijnaldum, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson could feature in the Netherlands v England clash tomorrow, with the UEFA Nations League taking centre stage.
On Wednesday night, it was Xherdan Shaqiri in action, as he started for Switzerland against Portugal, with the two sides meeting in Porto for a semi-final clash.
Portugal grabbed the lead in the first half thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo free kick, but Switzerland hit back thanks to a Ricardo Rodriguez penalty after real VAR controversy.
Portugal had won a penalty, but a VAR decision saw Switzerland awarded a penalty for an early incident, but it didn’t stop Portugal from winning as Ronaldo completed his hat-trick with two late goals.
The game handed Liverpool ace Shaqiri a rare chance to start, having spent most of 2019 as a fringe player under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The 27-year-old starred for Switzerland last night though, thriving in a free role behind Haris Seferovic, and he has now been hailed by Reds fans on Liverpool.
One fan suggested that he’d be begging Liverpool to sign Shaqiri if he wasn’t already at the club, because he was so good last night, with others urging Klopp to give him more of a starring role at Anfield next season having shown how influential he can be.
