Liverpool take on Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend, and that means the Reds will be facing Timo Werner.

For some time, many thought that Werner would be leaving RB Leipzig to join Liverpool this summer.

Reports from various outlets, including Bleacher Report, suggested that Werner would be signing for Liverpool, and that the Reds were just playing a waiting game.

However, The Mirror reported in May that Liverpool had pulled out of the race for Werner – and they then saw him join a Premier League rival.

Chelsea swooped to sign Werner for £47.5million, leaving some Liverpool fans disappointed as the club wouldn’t cough up the cash.

Werner started in Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Brighton earlier this week, winning a penalty for Chelsea’s opening goal – and he now has Liverpool in his sights.

Ahead of the game, Werner has told ESPN that he could well have fit in at Liverpool, branding them a ‘great team’ – but Chelsea managed to tempt him into picking them over waiting for Liverpool.

Liverpool fans have been taking to Twitter to react to Werner’s comments, believing that Liverpool never really wanted him and he only went to Chelsea because he had no other options.

Some think that money is what tempted Werner to Chelsea rather than actual football reasons, seemingly mocking the German’s comments.
