Bayern Munich won the DFB-Pokal on Saturday evening, beating Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
David Alaba, Serge Gnabry and a brace from Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern yet another trophy in what could have been Thiago Alcantara’s final game for the club.
The Spaniard is out of contract in 2021, and Bayern may be tempted to sell this summer if they land a fee of around €35million (£32million).
SPORT claimed late on Thursday night that Thiago is now close to leaving Bayern to join Liverpool, with negotiations now ‘very advanced’.
This would be something of a surprise; at 29, Thiago doesn’t really fit Liverpool’s usual transfer policy of signing players with room to develop.
Still, the former Barcelona star would bring real quality to the Liverpool midfield. It remains to be seen whether a deal actually goes through, but some Reds fans are convinced.

After Bayern’s win last night, Thiago posted a photo to Twitter with Bayern teammate Philippe Coutinho, who was of course a Liverpool favourite.
Liverpool fans believe that Thiago is teasing them by posting a photo with a former Liverpool player, believing he has done it on purpose.
Others hailed ‘agent Coutinho’, believing he will play a role in convincing Thiago to join the Reds even if he has been gone from Anfield for more than two years.
