Minamino heads to the Saints until the end of the season, and will be desperate for first-team opportunities having failed to really show his quality with the Reds.
The 26-year-old has started just two Premier League games this season, and after playing just six minutes of the recent defeat to Burnley, he’s on the move.
Signed from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, Minamino was a star in Russia but hasn’t really carved out a key role under Jurgen Klopp.
In truth, it feels like Liverpool haven’t really found Minamino’s best position, playing him either out wide as a number 10, though he could also play as a false nine in attack.
Heading to play under Ralph Hasenhuttl seems like a good fit if Minamino is to save his Liverpool career, and fans have been taking to Twitter to react to he move.
Supporters have taken to Twitter to suggest they can’t understand why Minamino is the one being loaned out instead of Divock Origi.
Others believe that this is a ‘poor decision’ and a disappointing move, feeling that Klopp should have kept Minamino and given him chances rather than agreeing a last-gasp move to Southampton.
