Liverpool have been quiet in this transfer window, and not many fans would have predicted a move for David Marshall before the deadline.

The Reds landed defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, but have failed to add other players to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Takumi Minamino and Harvey Elliott are back from loans, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could play a bigger role and there is again renewed hope for Naby Keita.

Liverpool fans have heard it all before though. They want proper reinforcements as Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all make big additions.

36-year-old goalkeeper Marshall doesn’t quite fall into that bracket.

The Scot is currently out of favour at Derby, with Wayne Rooney having Kelle Roos and Ryan Allsop as his main goalkeepers.

Marshall may look for an exit before the transfer deadline, but who on earth could have seen Liverpool being touted as a potential destination?

The Daily Mail claim that Liverpool fancy signing Marshall, seemingly having concerns over their goalkeeping options.

That seems utterly bizarre. Liverpool have Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher, just gave Adrian a new deal and have high hopes for Marcelo Pitaluga.

Marshall doesn’t even fill a homegrown quota spot, so why on earth are Liverpool allegedly keen?

Liverpool fans seem similarly baffled, taking to Twitter to suggest that this must be a joke given who their rivals are targeting.

Some just don’t get how this move makes any sense, and ultimately think the club need to be targeting better than a veteran goalkeeper.
