Liverpool’s patchy festive form continued on Monday night as they were beaten 1-0 away at Southampton.

The Reds drew 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion and 0-0 with Newcastle United in a couple of disappointing displays, meaning fans were looking for a response against Southampton.

However, they were 1-0 down inside a matter of minutes of Danny Ings lofted a superb finish over Alisson – and that proved to be the winner.

Liverpool couldn’t find an equaliser and slumped to defeat, meaning they have scored just one goal in their last three Premier League outings.

The Reds are lacking fluency at the moment, and there really wasn’t much for fans to shout about in a dismal showing at St Mary’s Stadium.

Winger Sadio Mane looked like the most likely player to make something happen in the final third, and did come in for praise from fans for his performance.

Mane recorded five successful dribbles, two key passes, one shot on target, one tackle won, one accurate cross and one aerial won, but just wasn’t able to break down his former club.

Fans took to Twitter to suggest that Liverpool were a one-man team last night as Mane was the only one trying, picking him out as the sole positive.

Others felt Mane was ‘immense’ and the only player to hold his head high after the 1-0 defeat, urging other players to be like Mane.
