The less said about Ryan Babel’s Liverpool career, the better.

Babel joined Liverpool in 2007 for £11.5 million, but 12 goals in 91 Premier League appearances across four years indicates that he wasn’t a roaring success at Anfield.

He certainly had his moments under Rafael Benitez, but for the most part he failed to justify the potential after earning a reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers at Ajax.

Eight years on from leaving the Reds and Babel, now 32, is back in the Premier League after joining Fulham this week.

The Netherlands international enjoyed a brilliant first 45 minutes on his debut against Tottenham, looking like the player that Benitez thought he signed all those years ago.

It was the former Besiktas star’s first game of senior football since before Christmas due to the winter break, and Claudio Ranieri brought him off early in the second period for Ryan Sessegnon.

Babel, who left Liverpool for Hoffenheim in 2011, could be a major asset for the Cottagers if the Italian manager can succeed where Benitez failed and get some consistency from the player.
