The Estonia international has left Liverpool to join Cagliari in a £2 million deal.

Despite that price-tag, Klavan was something of a bargain in the modern transfer market and was clearly a popular figure among Liverpool fans, by virtue of how they reacted to his departure.

Klavan only managed one Premier League for the Anfield club during his two-year stay – a last-minute winner away to Burnley on New Year’s Day back in January.

Dejan Lovren’s resurgence since January, coupled with Virgil van Dijk’s arrival, had rendered Klavan as something of a bit-part player for Liverpool and leaving probably makes sense in a football context.

The German manager also has Joel Matip at his disposal, and a Joe Gomez who can play centre-back, so Klavan was perhaps about to become fifth-choice.
