Liverpool transfer guru Michael Edwards might be about to do it again.

The Reds’ Director of Football is swiftly becoming one of football’s savviest figures at the negotiation table and there might be another example of his ability soon.

Taiwo Awoniyi is being linked with a move away from Liverpool and, according to The Echo, CSKA might have to pay around £15 million to sign him.

Bear in mind that the Nigerian is 21 and has never even kicked a ball for the European champions due to work permit issues.

In that context, to get a substantial fee would be nothing short of amazing work from Edwards – and here’s how Liverpool fans reacted to the potential deal:

The Nigeria Under-23 international has enjoyed a number of loans in Belgium in recent years but it might be time to leave Anfield for good.

Even if there weren’t work permit complications, would he be good enough for Jurgen Klopp’s first team? At the moment, probably not.

If he does develop into a world-class striker at some point in the future then it’s also likely that Edwards will either include a buy-back clause or a sell-on one, as he did when Liverpool sold Rafa Camacho to Sporting Lisbon earlier in the summer.
