It was a bit of a miracle when Guinea announced that Liverpool’s Naby Keita was fit for their Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Keita, who joined Jurgen Klopp’s side last summer, missed Liverpool’s Champions League win earlier this month with a groin injury, which was suffered a month earlier.

The 24-year-old recovered in time for Guinea’s AFCON opener against Madagascar on June 22, playing the last half-an-hour of the 2-2 draw.

But now it looks like the Reds midfielder might’ve been rushed back too soon after going off injured on 71 minutes in Wednesday’s defeat by Nigeria.

It remains to be seen how serious the problem is, but the Liverpool star, who had an excellent last few months of the season following a dreadful first four or five months, has been ruled out of Guinea’s final Group B game with Burundi on Sunday [The Echo].

Fans of the Anfield club will be livid if this injury results in him missing their start to the Premier League season in August, and a lot of supporters feel that his country’s manager Paul Put shouldn’t have brought him to the competition in the first place.
