There are some Liverpool fans who would rather the Reds move for Manchester City bound star.

Riyad Mahrez is on the verge of a move from Leicester City to Manchester City, with Sky Sports reporting a move could be finalised this week.

Mahrez came close to a move to Manchester City in January – and before that he was linked to Liverpool.

BeIN Sports had reported in early January that the Reds were keen on the Algerian winger, but the rumours proved to be without foundation.

Even so, there were some fans at the time who were excited about the possibility and six months on, Liverpool are yet to sign an attacking maestro to replace Coutinho.

Mahrez is proven in the Premier League, leading Leicester to the title in 2015/16.

Liverpool’s efforts to sign Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir have fallen short and their next move is unclear.

Mahrez moving to City strengthens the reigning champions, who reached a record 100 points last season.

Liverpool’s task to overhaul them has got even tougher.
