Liverpool midfielder Lazar Markovic has reportedly been demoted and is now training with the under-23s.
A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react to the reports emerging from the Liverpool Echo which have suggested that Lazar Markovic has been demoted and is now training with the Reds’ academy side.
Markovic has endured a nightmare time since arriving at Anfield. He made 34 appearances during his first season with the club, but is yet to appear for the side since that first campaign.
The £20 million signing has been out on loan four times in the last three seasons. The Liverpool Echo reports that his contract expires at the end of the season, and every sign is pointing towards the Serbia international leaving on a free next summer.
And the latest reports regarding his situation add weight to the idea that he is almost definitely on his way out of the club. The Echo has reported that he is now working away from Melwood and training with the under-23s.
The news has not been met with a lot of surprise amongst the Liverpool supporters on social media. The writing appears to have been on the wall for Markovic for a long time, and this latest development has probably only taken fans aback because it has reminded them that he remains on the club’s books.
Unfortunately for Markovic, several fans are suggesting that it is another reminder that he is one of the club’s worst signings. And it appears that everyone, including the wide-man himself you would imagine, is counting down the days until his contract expires.
