Liverpool only have a four-point cushion from Chelsea in the race for a top-four finish.

Manager Jurgen Klopp speaks to the media during the Liverpool FC Press Conference at Anfield on August 22, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Jurgen Klopp has called for a response from his Liverpool players after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Reds wound up slipping to fourth spot in the Premier League table this past weekend after the Red Devils, Chelsea and Tottenham all won.

As a result, Liverpool are now only four points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea and they have a fight on their hands to qualify for the Champions League in the conventional method.

The Anfield club host Watford on Merseyside on Saturday, before then facing Crystal Palace away two weeks later due to the international break.

And the German manager is adamant that his side need a good response to the United setback.

He told Liverpool’s website: “We have to respond, 100 per cent,” the manager told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.

“But in the moment I cannot, and I don’t want to, think about anything else. I still have to work to swallow this one and it’s quite difficult.”

But Klopp’s comments haven’t gone down well on social media, and some Liverpool fans have called on a change of manager if their side wind up finishing outside the top four this season.

Klopp is surely a popular figure among the majority of Liverpool fans, despite losing to the Red Devils, but slipping out of the top four and not winning the Champions League would represent an absolute disaster of a season that once promised so much.
