The 27-year-old England international midfielder started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the Reds won 2-0.
The former Sunderland star played well for the Merseyside outfit, as he produced a captain’s performance, passed the ball well and made it hard for Newcastle in the middle of the park.
The win against the Magpies has enhanced Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will now also fancy their chance of ending up second in the standings this campaign.
