Some Liverpool fans on Twitter were left purring by one of Joel Matip’s passes today.

The Reds bounced back to winning ways by thumping Bournemouth 3-0 at Anfield to move back top of the Premier League.

Goals from Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum helped Liverpool into a very comfortable 2-0 lead at half time, but could the advantage have been better? In a word, yes.

Roberto Firmino could and should have scored during a one-sided first half after latching on to a quite brilliant ball from Matip, a centre-back.

And although the Brazilian couldn’t finish, the Cameroon defender’s intentions didn’t go unnoticed by fans of the Anfield club.

It was an excellent showing overall from Matip, but let’s be honest – it’s Bournemouth.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are back on Merseyside on Tuesday for a visit of Bayern Munich in the Champions League and that promises to be a much bigger test, and not only for Matip.
