Liverpool’s Joel Matip is unlikely to play again this season, according to a report.

Liverpool have been rocked by the news that Joel Matip has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The former Schalke centre-back ruptured a thigh muscle in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and, according to The Liverpool Echo, is unlikely to play again this season.
It’s a huge blow for the Reds who, in addition to their ongoing battle for a top-four finish, have a Champions League quarter-final tie with Manchester City on the horizon, with Pep Guardiola’s side travelling to Anfield for the first leg tomorrow evening.
Matip’s absence means that Dejan Lovren is likely to be given the nod by Jurgen Klopp to partner Virgil van Dijk in central defence tomorrow night and beyond.

And here is how Liverpool fans reacted to Matip’s injury and the implication it has for Lovren.
Lovren doesn’t have a great reputation among Liverpool supporters, but the former Southampton man is capable of surprising fans and pundits alike and the Merseyside outfit need him at his best tomorrow, if Klopp goes for him.
