Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to the performance of Joel Matip against Southampton on Friday evening.

Matip featured for Liverpool in their Premier League game against Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old central defender started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the Reds won 3-1.

Shane Long put the Saints in the lead after just nine minutes with Matip struggling at the back, and Naby Keita restored parity for the Reds on 36 minutes.

Mohamed Salah made it 2-1 to the Merseyside outfit on 80 minutes, and Jordan Henderson wrapped up the scoring six minutes later.

According to WhoScored, against the Saints, Matip had a pass accuracy of 90%, won seven headers, took 106 touches, and made one tackle, one interception and four clearances.

The defender did not have a good game at the back and struggled for the Southampton goal.

The result means that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment with 82 points from 33 matches, a point clear of second-placed Manchester City, who have played 32 games.

Liverpool fans were not impressed with the display produced by Matip against Southampton and have criticised the Cameroonian defender on Twitter.
