Reported Liverpool target Jack Butland’s mistake prompted plenty of debate amongst Reds fans.
Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to discuss whether the club are making the right move targeting Jack Butland after his error in Stoke City’s draw with Leicester City on Saturday.
The Reds’ struggles with goalkeepers has been well-publicised over the last few years with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius both struggling to convince when they have been given a chance between the sticks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it appears that Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to strengthen his options in goal. The Sun reported earlier in the month that the Reds were eyeing up a £40 million summer move for Butland.
Butland has long been considered one of the most talented stoppers available to England, but is part of a Stoke side that is battling to beat the drop in the top flight this term – and it appeared that they may be about to secure an important win when Leicester visited the bet365 Stadium on Saturday as Xherdan Shaqiri gave them a half-time lead.
Unfortunately, the Potters had to settle for one point as a cross from Marc Albrighton should have arguably represented a simple chance for the 24-year-old to register a regulation catch.
However, the ball hit the England international and went into the back of the net to ensure that the points were shared. And unfortunately for Butland – who has, to be fair, saved Stoke a lot of points since he has been with the club – the goal did not escape the attention of the Liverpool supporters on social media.
There were several Reds fans who suggested, off the back of the mistake, that it would be the wrong move to target the stopper in the summer as they felt that he did not appear to be any better than what the club already have. Though some were impressed by the saves that he did make during the draw.
