Liverpool have lost both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to injury, meaning they will miss the majority of the season.

The Reds have been using Joel Matip and Fabinho at centre back, as well as the likes of Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips.

Still, Liverpool may need to dip into the transfer market for a new centre back, whether that’s in January or at the end of the season.

Bild report that Dayot Upamecano is a target, but they add that teammate Ibrahima Konate is now wanted by Liverpool too.

Konate, 21, has emerged as one of the top young centre backs in Europe since joining Leipzig from Sochaux in the summer of 2017.

Tall and physically imposing at 6ft 4in tall, Konate is also quick and adept at playing out from the back, meaning he ticks many boxes for Liverpool.

Liverpool fans have now been taking to Twitter to react to the rumours, with many worried about Konate’s injury record.

Some believe that Michael Edwards and co would be ‘insane’ to go for such an injury-prone defender given their issues in that area already, claiming he is ‘made of glass’ and shouldn’t be signed even though he has so much quality.
