Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is ‘on the brink’ of returning for Liverpool, according to The Echo.

The former Arsenal midfielder hasn’t kicked a ball for Liverpool in any competition since last April after suffering a long-term injury in a Champions League win over Roma.

But according to The Echo, the 25-year-old is in contention to feature in some of the Reds’ Under-23 games next week.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was coming into form at the time of his injury last season, and played a big role in Jurgen Klopp’s side eliminating Manchester City from the Champions League.

He is a popular among Liverpool fans and here is how some have responded to James Pearce, who revealed plans of his comeback on Twitter:

Having him back will be a big boost for Klopp’s side who, in addition to challenging for the Champions League, are firmly in contention to win the Premier League.

Liverpool, who sit second in the table, will climb back above Manchester City at the summit if they win this evening’s Merseyside derby at Everton.

It’s a cliche, but Oxlade-Chamberlain will be like a new signing if Klopp has him available for the title run-in.
