Should Liverpool be making a move for West Ham target William Carvalho?
The Portugal international is set to depart Sporting Club de Portugal for what would be a club record fee for the Hammers which could reach £40 million after add-ons.

West Ham were battered at the weekend by Manchester United, conceding four goals, highlighting their need for a top defensive midfielder.
Another team whose defensive frailties were evident was Liverpool, who conceded three goals at Watford as they drew 3-3.

He may lack the dynamism and attacking talent of top midfield target Naby Keita, but Carvalho is a gifted defensive midfielder who could allow the rest of the Reds attackers to thrive.
Carvalho also has a physically imposing presence which could help defend set pieces, which proved to be their downfall at the weekend as was throughout last season.
He is expensive, but Liverpool have bid more money unsuccessfully for players this summer, and if they really wanted to, potentially have could brought him in.
