Everton failed to look particularly threatening against Ružomberok, but they still picked up a 1-0 victory thanks to a deflected effort from Leighton Baines.
The pick of Everton’s attackers was arguably Sandro Ramirez, who came on as a late substitute.
Everton will take on Ružomberok in Slovakia for the second leg of the tie next week, but tougher tests will lie ahead when the Premier League season gets back under way.
