Virgil van Dijk produced an out-of-character moment during Liverpool’s defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Liverpool supporters on Twitter have expressed their worry after Virgil van Dijk seemingly dismissed suggestions that he set to sign a new contract at the club.

Centre-back Van Dijk has been an instrumental figure for Liverpool in recent seasons and that was proven when he helped the club to their sixth European crown last season.

They also narrowly missed out on the Premier League title also, as they were pipped by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on the final day of the season.

On Tuesday, the Reds suffered a defeat in Italy, as the defence of their European crown started on the wrong foot, with Napoli walking away with a 2-0 win.

After the game, Van Dijk stated that he is ‘not even discussing’ a new contract extension at the Merseyside club, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Some Liverpool fans are concerned by Van Dijk’s comments, as they don’t like the manner in which he answered the question about his future.

The Dutchman’s current deal is due to expire in 2023, so there is nothing to be worried on that front, but that won’t stop potentially interested parties making a move for the Anfield star if they wish.

But from Van Dijk’s perspective, he won’t be too worried about his current situation because he will be more concerned about helping Liverpool push closer to the Premier League title.

Klopp’s side have won their opening five Premier League games and they will arguably face their toughest test of the season so far when they take on Chelsea at the weekend.
