Liverpool suffered a major defensive blow earlier this month, as Virgil van Dijk suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury against Everton.
Van Dijk will now be out for the rest of the season, leaving Liverpool with something of a defensive crisis to deal with until the January window.
Dejan Lovren wasn’t replaced and Joel Matip is out injured too, meaning Joe Gomez and makeshift defender Fabinho will have to play at centre back without Van Dijk.
Liverpool may be forced into the transfer market to replace Van Dijk, and The Mirror claim that the Reds have opened talks to sign Schalke defender Ozan Kabak.
Liverpool allegedly want to pay £20million with add-ons taking the deal to £30million, with Jurgen Klopp allegedly a ‘big admirer’ of the Turkish centre back.
The 20-year-old has impressed in Germany with Stuttgart and now Schalke, possessing strength and aerial ability as well as quality on the ball – which would be important under Klopp.

Some Liverpool fans have been reacting to the rumours, suggesting that £20million is a bargain for Kabak, and that fans should get behind the move if Klopp really is a fan.
Others aren’t quite so convinced, and are hoping that Kabak is merely a smokescreen so Liverpool can bring RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano to Anfield in January.
