He is the second Brazilian to seal a major move to the north west in the past fortnight, following Liverpool signing Fabinho from Monaco.
Fred will become United’s first signing of the summer and his battles with Fabinho next season will be fascinating.
He beat the new Liverpool ace into Brazil’s World Cup squad and while this is a reason for United fans to cheer, his rival will have a headstart to get up to speed in pre-season.
Fabinho is also not the only new Liverpool player Fred will have to compete against.
Liverpool also have Naby Keita arriving following the completion of his move from RB Leipzig, which was agreed last summer.
Fans of Jurgen Klopp’s side are convinced they have the better players, and that their manager has a better chance of maximising their talent.
